Josephine Ann (nee Sylvester), Barnstorff, 84, died after a brief illness on Jan. 18, 2012. Beloved wife of Henry Barnstorff. Loving mother of Peggy (Garth McCann), Fort Collins, Colo.; Kathy (Bill Maisey), Hampton, Va.; and John (Lori), Brussels, Wis.; and her grandchildren, Meridith McCann (Stephen Groszewski), and Beth and Adam Barnstorff.
"Jo Ann" grew up mostly in Shawnee Mission, Kan., as a tomboy, excelling at sports. She graduated from Southwest High School, where she was president of the orchestra, graduated in Chemistry at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she formed lifelong friendships after joining Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Jo Ann was also a member of the Webster Groves chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed traveling, history, counted cross stitch, lunching with friends, her children and grandchildren, driving her vintage red VW convertible, riding her motor scooters and spending summers at the family's cottage in Door County, Wis. Jo Ann never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew her.
Jo Ann's ashes will be buried following a small memorial service this summer at Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport, Wis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a charity of choice are appreciated. www.boppchapel.com
