    Faith Perspective: Story of church burglary still unfolding

    Perhaps you know that the church I serve, First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay, was burglarized in early January. Being hit by thieves should not take us by surprise, especially since Jesus said in Matthew 6:19, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal …" Jesus would not have used such an example unless it was based in reality.

    New residents invited to register now

    New residents who have not yet registered to vote might want to check in with the municipal clerk now and taking care of registering before election day. Although Wisconsin does allow election-day registration, with the new photo ID and residency requirements, registering in the clerk's office beforehand can save some time and be less hectic than waiting until April 3.

    4-H food drive to help local pantries

    The East Maplewood Beavers 4-H Club — which includes youth from Brussels, Forestville, Maplewood, and the Southern Door area — will host an annual food drive on Feb. 11.     Seeing signs of an early spring

    It is so nice to have this mild weather. I do feel worried about the farms and orchards and our tourist industry, however. On an interesting note, the sandhill cranes have arrived in Nebraska at the Platte River on their migration — they are a month early this year. I hope this means an early spring without a later frost.
