  1. 35th annual fish derby well under way

    Even though it's been a warm winter without the thick ice of past years, fish caught during Washington Island's annual Fish Derby — in its 35th year — are already hanging outside Nelsen's Hall on Main Road. The Fish Derby is sponsored by the Lions Club.

    More than 2,000 bird counts are conducted in North and Central America in early winter each year, and Washington Island conducted its count on Dec. 17, 2011.

    The town of Washington has a new website, launched last week. The former website, which was established years ago, was not set up in color and did not provide some of the features that most of today's websites offer.

  4. Door County Reads comes to Island

    Laura Kayacan, adult services librarian from the main branch of the Door County Library in Sturgeon Bay, will visit Washington Island to lead a discussion of the 1940 novel, "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter," by Carson McCullers. This book is the focus of Door County Reads, and discussions and other activities in connection with this book are taking place at various locations around the county.
